Im Jahre des Herrn 1985 besuchte the Caledonian Pipe Band aus dem englischen Oxfordshire, unter der Führung von Pipe Major  Jock Laidlaw Hennef – Dambroich. Ein kleines Dorf mit lebenslustigen Menschen und einer verrufenen und heruntergekommenen Kneipe, ganz nach dem Geschmack der Pseudo- Schotten. Es ist Karnevalszeit und dies ist auch der Anlass des Besuchs.  Die Pipe Band ist gefragt, bei den Karnevalsumzügen auf den umliegenden Dörfern zu spielen. Zum Proben und Einstimmen der Dudelsäcke und Trommeln brauchte man einen Treffpunkt.  Man fand ein Plätzchen gleich wie in einem Kloster, wo Ruhe und Geborgenheit herrschte , wo es keinen Tropfen Alkohol gab, sondern nur Milch von glücklichen Kühen. Das fanden die dem Alkohol und sonstigen Lastern verfallenen wilden Dudelsackpfeifer doch sehr komisch, ...."funny".... und so tauften sie diesen Ort der Stille  "The Funny Farm". Und das Wunder geschah, mit viel Geduld gelang es  "holy father Rudi " die Wilden von ihren Saufgelagen und sonstigen Unsitten zu heilen. Seitdem heißt dieser Ort der Ruhe "The Funny-Farm".

In the year of our Lord 1985, the Caledonian Pipe Band from the the English county of Oxfordshire under the direction of Pipe Major Jock Laidlaw visited the German Hennef-Dambroich, a small village with fun-loving people with a disreputable and dive of a bar befitting the tastes of the pseudo-Scots. The infamous visit took place during that year's Mardi Gras celebration. The pipe band was asked by the Mardi Gras parade to play through the surrounding villages. At a rehearsal while tuning their bag pipes and drums, someone needed a break. He found a spot as in a monastery where peace and tranquility pervaded the air, where there was no alcohol-rather, only milk from happy cows. This struck the phatigued, wild bagpiper as peculiar - "funny"  in fact. And then a wonder came to pass as "Holy Father Rudi" with a generous amount of patience, healed the wild ones from their boozing and sundry immoralities. This is how the term "Funny Farm" was christened to describe this place.
